Successful July 4th Pancake Breakfast
Thanks to all who came out to the 4th of July Pancake Breakfast! Here are some photos of the festivities.
2014 Kiwanis Scholarship Winners
South Pasadena High School students Leah Zeiger, Hannah Gray, and Patricia San Pedro were awarded individual scholarships by the South Pasadena Kiwanis Club on June 11, 2014.
S. Paul Ward Key Club Scholarship
Patricia San Pedro was awarded the S. Paul Ward Key Club Scholarship. This $1,000 academic scholarship is given to a student who is a Key Club member, and is based on grade point average and community service. Patricia will attend USC in the fall, majoring in Gerontology.
Kenneth Yamanaka Memorial Scholarship
Hannah Gray is this year’s recipient of the Kenneth Yamanaka Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 academic scholarship awarded to a college-bound high school student who has shown outstanding academic achievement. Hannah will be attending Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she will study Linguistics and Art.
Maus Family Arts Scholarship
Awarded to Leah Zeiger, the $1,000 Maus Family Arts Scholarship is given to a South Pasadena student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the arts (e.g. visual arts, performing arts, music, film, dance), and intends to pursue his or her post-secondary education in the arts. Leah will be attending Columbia College in Chicago this fall, where she will study Dance and Choreography.
Another Bike Donated! South Pasadena Kiwanis Club Awards Bicycle, Helmet and Lock to Marengo Elementary Student Muan Meurer
South Pasadena Kiwanis Club Elementary School Scholarship Chair Jeff Graham made an appearance at Marengo Elementary on Friday, June 6, 2014, to award a new bike, helmet and lock to a student selected by the faculty who demonstrates character qualities like leadership, kindness and good community citizen. After asking the audience to demonstrate by a show of hands, who’d been to a July 4th Pancake Breakfast, seeing many hands go up all around the assemblage of people, Graham acknowledged them, and said, “Thank you, you all helped pay for this bike. “Cool bike!” “Wow, I want to ride that.” South Pasadena Kiwanis Club Elementary School Scholarship Chair Jeff Graham overheard that and similar whispers as he wheeled a brand, new Schwinn Classic series black beach cruiser to the dais in Arroyo Vista’s courtyard on Friday, May 30, 2014 during the end of the year Awards Ceremony.
